Thailand's Long-Term Visas and Costs (2025)

Tourist / Visa-Exempt / Visa on Arrival

Typically 60 days stay for many nationalities (tourist visa or visa-exempt).  May be extendable an extra 30 days.

As of May 2025, tourist visa applicants must show proof of funds of at least 20,000 THB (~USD 550) for the stay.

Non-Immigrant “O” Visa (Marriage / Family / Staying with Thai spouse / relatives)

Initially a 90-day visa outside Thailand, then after entry you can apply for a 1-year extension (renewable annually) so you can stay continuously, so long as the requirements are met.

Financial requirements: • At least THB 400,000 (~USD ~11,500–12,000) in a Thai bank account for 2-3 months before applying; or • A monthly income of at least THB 40,000 per month (~USD ~1,100-1,300) visible by income statements.

Retirement Visa (Non-Immigrant O-A)

Valid for 1 year, renewable annually provided criteria are met.

You must be 50 years old or over, and meet one of: • Have THB 800,000 deposited in Thai bank account (maintained for certain period) OR • Show a monthly income of THB 65,000 (~USD ~1,900) OR • Combination of both (lower deposit + income).  Also health insurance often required (minimum outpatient / inpatient thresholds).

Non-Immigrant O-X Visa (5-/10-Year Retirement Visa for eligible nationalities)

Valid for 5 years per issuance, with possibility of renewal (total up to 10 years for some) for eligible persons aged 50+ from selected countries.

Must meet stricter requirements: e.g. deposit of THB 3,000,000 in Thai bank; or deposit ~ 1.8 million THB + an annual income of 1.2 million THB; insurance required; maintain certain balance after first years.

Destination Thailand Visa (Digital Nomad / Remote Workers / Long-Term Visitors)

Valid for 5 years total; allows stays of up to 180 days per entry, with an option for a one-time extra 180-day extension in some cases.

Financial requirement: proof of THB 500,000 (~USD ~13,600) in bank (liquid assets) required. Other requirements include being at least ~20 years old, health insurance, proof of remote work / contract / activity. Visa fee is THB 10,000.
